Halloween Dance - Glenwood Springs

It's getting that time to think about ghosts and goblins. In making your plans for Halloween, I hope that you will plan on spending the evening at my home for a Halloween Dance, complete with a Costume Contest. The cost for the dance is $15.00, with proceeds going to the Cliff Keene fund at American Bank. (See previous post) Prizes will include 4 private dance lessons, gift items and more. The dance will start at 8:00 and will conclude sometime after midnight. I assure you a good time will be had by all. If you have any questions or need additional information, please feel free to call me at: (970) 778-6593.

News Regarding Cliff Keene

Many of you know Cliff and have asked for an update on his medical problems. GREAT NEWS! On Friday of last week, Cliff received a call that they had a new liver for him. He drove to Denver and the liver was delivered to University Hospital around 5:00. He underwent surgery and is doing well. Following is an email that was sent to me by a mutual friend. We will try and keep you updated on his ongoing recovery.

Friends of Dr. Cliff Keen

Dr. Cliff Keen is a local chiropractor that has lived
in Glenwood Springs since 1993. He has three
children Derek (28), Adam (26), and Alyson (23),
which live throughout Colorado. Outside of his
office Cliff has been involved in the community
through a variety of interests including: the
Glenwood Springs Chamber, Defiance Community
Players, Mountain Madrigal Singers, and Tango
Glenwood.

In February of this year Cliff Keen was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder, which caused liver failure. Three weeks ago he was accepted to the national transplant list and on Friday October 9th, 2009 Cliff received the call that a donor match was available. At 6:00 pm that night he underwent a transplant surgery. The surgery went well and Cliff is currently recovering at the University Hospital in Denver. His expected recovery time in Denver is 6 to 8 weeks.

As you can imagine, this is a very expensive procedure with a number of continuing costs due to prescriptions and examinations. In addition, Dr. Keen will be unable to work for a lengthy period of time. In order to help Cliff with expenses while he is recovering, an account has been set up at American National Bank, For The Benefit Of Cliff Keen.

Your Support, Prayers and Friendship are deeply appreciated.

Men of Music

I received this information from Scott Betts in Grand Junction. Sounds like a fun time!!!

The Men of Music, (10-piece big band) will be playing for the Two Rivers Chautauqua dance again this year. The date is next Thursday, Sept. 17 at Cross Orchards Barn. This year’s theme is “Dancing through the Decades.” Susan Marie Frontczak (one of the Chautauquans playing ballroom hotshot Irene Castle) will be teaching the Charleston and One-Step from 6 to 7 with the dance starting at 7 to 9. The cost is $10 a couple or $6 single. They are also working on a different dance floor that should work better than last year’s portable floor.

This dance band only performs a few times a year, so don't miss out on a great time. Hope to see you at the dance.

Frank

ps. Mark your calendars: The next engagement for the Men of Music is the Military Ball, Friday, November 13 at Two Rivers Convention Center.

Labor Day Workshop in Glenwood

Wow. What a successful workshop! We learned how to add some Shag styling to our West Coast Swing. Eighteen people showed up at my house for the workshop. By dinner we had added two or three more people and even more showed up after dinner to dance for a few hours. I think the frustration level was high at times, but that is what makes an advanced intermediate workshop fun. Challenging material that you have to "practice" is a good thing! I want to thank all of you who turned out for my first workshop in my new home and appreciate your support. Keep checking in for news of upcoming events. You might want to sign up as a follower to that information will come to you when the blog is updated.

Welcome

Welcome to the new home of Dancing in the Rockies. I tried to maintain an actual "website" for all of the partner dance news on the Western Slope of Colorado, but it wasn't cost efficient. So....I've decided to try and go with a blog instead. Hopefully I'll have pictures to post of events. I would also like to have any information sent to my email address regarding any upcoming dances, classes and/or workshops on our side of the hill.
